A value determined by a pulp mill laboratory test on pulp to indicate the quantity of gaseous chlorine absorbed by a specified sample. It is a measure of its bleachability.

L'indice de chlore varie linéairement selon la proportion de lignine contenue dans les pâtes de rendement inférieur à 75 %. Dans le cas de la pâte kraft : teneur en lignine (%) = 0,8 fois l'indice de chlore. Cet indice est révélateur du degré de délignification dans un procédé de fabrication de pâte donné, et donne une bonne évaluation de la demande d'agents de blanchiment au premier stade.
