Au début du siècle, sans doute sous l'influence d'hôtel de ville, le conseil municipal s'est aussi appelé conseil de ville, mais ce ne fut jamais son appellation officielle et l'expression avait cessé d'avoir cours au milieu du siècle. Il est incorrect de dire "conseil de ville" au lieu de conseil municipal.
