A canopy, located over the dryer section of a paper machine, with side panels that extend to the paper machine room floor or into the basement. It is used to confine and control vapor-laden air rising from the dryers so that the heat can be recovered by using it to heat the air entering the machine room.

Les hottes ont un triple rôle : - recueillir les buées, empêcher que l'air humide chaud se répande dans la salle et assurer ainsi un meilleur confort du personnel; - permettre une aération efficace de la sécherie par soufflage; - améliorer le rendement de la sécherie par récupération partielle de la chaleur des buées. [...] La hotte enfermant totalement la sécherie permet d'isoler complètement celle-ci de la salle et d'utiliser au mieux les calories fournies et en partie récupérées.
