Flame safeguard system. The set of equipment used to provide safe control of burner operation. This usually includes the flame safeguard control, the flame detection system, all controllers, all limits and interlocks, all fuel valves, the ignition system, the firing rate control system, and any other auxiliary equipment.

Pour comprendre l'origine de l'expression anglaise [flame safeguard control system] et de son équivalent français [système de surveillance de flamme], il faut savoir que les ensembles du genre ont principalement pour fonction de détecter la présence d'une flamme satisfaisante et d'assurer le démarrage, l'état de régime et l'arrêt sécuritaires du brûleur. La surveillance de flamme (flame safeguard) est donc une fonction sécuritaire spécifique d'une importance telle qu'elle a valu son nom à tout le système.

Tout appareil neuf utilisant du gaz doit être équipé d'un système de surveillance de la flamme (Zündsicherung) selon la norme ITM-EN 125 respectivement de la norme DIN 3360-2.
