In 2001, Statistics Canada, on behalf of the Office of Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), conducted the first Commercial and Institutional Building Energy Use Survey (CIBEUS). CIBEUS contributes to the OEE's mandate to renew, strengthen and expand Canada's commitment to energy efficiency, by providing detailed information on the commercial sector which will be useful to assess how well Canada is fulfilling its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emission.

En 2001, Statistique Canada a réalisé cette première Enquête sur la consommation d'énergie dans les bâtiments commerciaux et institutionnels (ECÉBCI) pour le compte de l'Office de l'efficacité énergétique (OEE) de Ressources naturelles Canada (RNCan). L'ECÉBCI s'inscrit dans le mandat de l'OEE - renforcer et accroître l'engagement du Canada envers l'efficacité énergétique afin de relever les défis posés par les changements climatiques - en fournissant de l'information détaillée sur le secteur commercial, qui pourra servir à évaluer à quel point le Canada remplit ses engagements en ce qui touche la réduction des gaz à effet de serre.
