A material that causes visible destruction or irreversible alterations in human skin tissue at the site of contact or that has a severe corrosion rate on steel or aluminum.

CONT

A corrosive material can attack (corrode) metals or human tissues such as the skin or eyes. Corrosive materials may cause metal containers or structural materials to become weak and eventually to leak or collapse. Corrosive materials can burn or destroy human tissues on contact and can cause effects such as permanent scarring or blindness. The Controlled Products Regulations describe technical criteria for identifying materials which are classified as corrosive materials.

Matières corrosives. Une substance est dite corrosive si elle attaque (corrode) les métaux et les tissus du corps humain, comme ceux de la peau ou des yeux. Les substances corrosives peuvent détériorer les contenants en métal et entraîner une fuite, ou affaiblir les matériaux de charpente et entraîner un effondrement. Les substances corrosives peuvent brûler les tissus du corps humain et causer des cicatrices permanentes ou rendre une personne aveugle. Le Règlement sur les produits contrôlés donne les critères techniques servant à identifier les substances qui appartiennent à la catégorie des matières corrosives.
