Revenue Canada was the first modern income tax administration in the world to formally enunciate the rights of taxpaying Canadians in a "Declaration of Taxpayer Rights". The declaration consolidates certain rights found in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, in statutes, and in common law. It summarizes the Department's commitment to treating its clients fairly, courteously, and with respect for their rights.
