L'équipe de Denise Paulin, à l'Institut Pasteur, a montré que l'une de ces protéines, la desmine, assure la cohésion et la résistance du tissu musculaire. Aujourd'hui, on découvre que diverses maladies qui touchent le tissu musculaire, et dont on ignorait la cause, résulteraient de mutations du gène codant la desmine.
