Dipylidium caninum est un cestode, parasite de l'intestin du chien et du chat et qui a l'état larvaire se loge dans le corps d'une puce ou d'un pou. Sa répartition est mondiale et sa fréquence est élevée. Après avoir rappelé son anatomie et sa physiologie, l'auteur étudie le plus précisément possible son cycle de développement. Dans une troisième partie, l'auteur présente sous forme de tableaux les enquêtes épidemiologiques concernant la dipylidiose animale. Le traitement de cette parasitose excessivement fréquente, s'avère indispensable pour l'animal lui-même, mais aussi dans le but d'éviter tout risque de contamination humaine.
