A theory of market analysis based upon the performance of the Dow-Jones Industrial and Transportation (stock price) Averages. The theory is that the market is in a basic upward trend if one of these averages advances above a previous important high, accompanied or followed by a similar advance in the other. When both averages dip below previous important lows, this is regarded as confirmation of a basic downward trend.

Théorie d'analyse du marché fondée sur la tendance des indices Dow Jones des valeurs industrielles et des transports. Selon cette théorie, le marché a une tendance fondamentale à la hausse si l'un des indices dépasse un niveau record précédent accompagné ou suivi d'une tendance semblable de l'autre indice. Lorsque ces deux indices baissent au-dessous d'important creux précédent, ceci est considéré comme la confirmation d'une tendance fondamentale à la baisse.

Asegura que en la evolución del mercado bursátil se entremezclan tres tipos de movimientos: 1) una tendencia primaria a largo plazo, cuya duración puede oscilar entre nueve y dieciocho meses; 2) un movimiento secundario, que puede durar entre una y ocho semanas, y 3) oscilaciones diarias, fruto de la oferta y la demanda, que se superponen sobre los dos movimientos anteriores. Aplicable a la Bolsa de Nueva York, dice que una tendencia alcista o bajista no se confirma hasta que se produce un nuevo máximo o un nuevo mínimo, tanto en el índice industrial, Dow Jones Industrial, como en el de transporte, Dow Jones Transport.
