Dans le texte du client qui nous a soumis ces termes au service de consultations terminologiques (service SVP), il est fait mention d'installations "pre-engineered" et d'installations "engineered" de lutte contre l'incendie. Notre proposition est fondée sur l'hypothèse que le "pre-engineered" se rapporterait à du matériel "type", c'est-à-dire pouvant être utilisé dans la plupart des situations ou des immeubles, alors que les "engineered systems" se rapporteraient à des besoins spécifiques, en d'autres termes, à du taillé sur mesure, à de l'adapté. Par exemple, un atelier où seraient stockés des produits présentant des dangers particuliers nécessiterait un matériel de protection spécialement conçu pour y faire face.
