The Military Engineering Experimental Establishment was formed in 1946 from the Experimental Bridging Establishment (from 1919) and the Experimental Demolition Establishment (World War II). Between 1946 and 1959 it was under the Ministry of Supply, between 1959 and 1970 under the War Office, and in 1970 it was amalgamated with the Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment to form the Military Vehicles and Engineering Establishment.
