OBS

R.F. Ross a montré en 1975 que toute musique présente une certaine autosimilarité invariante d'échelle, mais c'est seulement depuis quelques années qu'on en compose à partir de tels algorithmes. Parmi les compositeurs contemporains qui se sont inspirés de la géométrie fractale de B. Mandelbrot, mentionnons György Ligeti et sa musique synthétique ou Charles Worinen et sa "Bambula Squared", composée pour bande magnétique quadriphonique et jouée en première par l'orchestre philharmonique de New York en 1984.
