The "General Conference on Weights and Measures" ("Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures", "CGPM") is made up of delegates of the governments of the Member States and observers from the Associates of the "CGPM". The General Conference receives the report of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) on work accomplished; it discusses and examines the arrangements required to ensure the propagation and improvement of the International System of Units (SI); it endorses the results of new fundamental metrological determinations and various scientific resolutions of international scope; and it decides all major issues concerning the organization and development of the BIPM [Bureau international des poids et mesures,] including the dotation of the BIPM.

La «Conférence générale des poids et mesures» («CGPM») rassemble des délégués des États Membres et des observateurs des Associés à la «CGPM». Le rapport du Comité international des poids et mesures (CIPM) sur les travaux accomplis est présenté à la Conférence générale. Celle-ci discute et examine les dispositions à prendre pour assurer l'extension et l'amélioration du Système international d'unités (SI), sanctionne les résultats de nouvelles déterminations métrologiques fondamentales, prend des résolutions scientifiques de portée internationale dans le domaine de la métrologie, et prend aussi des décisions importantes concernant l'organisation, le développement du BIPM [Bureau international des poids et mesures,] et sa dotation.

Conferencia General de Pesas y Medidas; Conferencia General de Pesos y Medidas; CGPM: La Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu BBVA), con el asesoramiento de la Real Academia Española, indica que a la entidad responsable de normalizar las mediciones físicas se la conoce también como "Conferencia General de Pesos y Medidas" (es decir, con "Pesos" en lugar de "Pesas"), forma igualmente válida.
