The Internet has become a medium for the exchange of GIS data and services. This workshop will survey a number of significant Web sites which offer online data and metadata search and retrieval, interactive mapping systems, interactive data visualization, and online data ordering. We will also review some of the underlying technical issues in creating an interactive GIS Web site, with an examination of future directions for Internet-based applications, such as Java, CORBA, distributed databases, online ordering systems, etc. International Symposium "Geomatics in the Era of RADARSAT", Ottawa, 1997.

L'Internet est devenu un média d'échange de données et de services de SIG. Cet atelier se veut un examen d'un certain nombre de sites Web importants offrant des services de recherche et d'extraction en ligne de données et de métadonnées, des systèmes de cartographie interactive, la visualisation interactive de données et des services de commande de données. Nous aborderons de plus certaines des questions techniques sous-jacentes à la création d'un site Web interactif sur les SIG et les orientations futures des applications basées sur l'Internet comme les programmes Java, CORBA, les bases de données réparties, les systèmes de commande en ligne, etc. Symposium international «La géomatique à l'ère de RADARSAT» qui eut lieu à Ottawa en 1997.
