OBS

It implies a gap in sedimentation and may be preserved stratigraphically as an unconformity.

Il est très fréquent de trouver, dans ces surfaces rubéfiées, des concentrations anormales de minéraux authigènes (exemples : glauconite, sidérite, dolomie, etc.).

On observe les hard grounds dans les sédiments marins, notamment au sommet de séries calcaires, et on pense qu'ils traduisent un arrêt de la sédimentation causé par l'activité de courants de fond.
