The energy radiated by solids, liquids or gases in the form of electromagnetic waves as a result of their temperature.

CONT

Radiation heat transfer is concerned with the exchange of thermal radiation energy between two or more bodies. Thermal radiation is defined as electromagnetic radiation in the wavelength range of 0.1 to 100 microns (which encompasses the visible light regime), and arises as a result of a temperature difference between 2 bodies.

Le rayonnement thermique est caractérisé par des longueurs d'ondes comprises entre 0,1 et 100 µm, il inclut le domaine du visible (ondes lumineuses ou lumière de 0,4 à 0,8 µm) et n'occupe qu'une faible portion du spectre d'ondes électromagnétiques.

Les deux mots «radiation» et «rayonnement» ne représentent pas des notions complètement distinctes; le premier est employé de préférence lorsque l'on considère essentiellement l'aspect corpusculaire, le second désignant surtout l'aspect ondulatoire électromagnétique.

Le «rayonnement de grandes longueurs d'onde» est un rayonnement de longueurs d'onde supérieure à 4µ; par exemple : rayonnement infrarouge, terrestre ou thermique, etc.
