Mediterranean spotted fever, also known as North African tick typhus, Kenya tick-bite fever, Indian tick typhus, and boutonneuse fever, is caused by Rickettsia conorii.

It occurs around the Mediterranean, Black, and Caspian Seas, with variant forms in Africa and on the Indian subcontinent. ... There are other names based on geographical area, such as South African tickbite fever and Indian tick typhus.
