On 17 May 1865 ... the International Telegraph Union (ITU) was set up to enable subsequent amendments to this initial agreement to be agreed upon. ... At the 1932 Madrid Conference, the International Telegraph Union decided to combine the International Telegraph Convention of 1865 and the International Radiotelegraph Convention of 1906 to form the International Telecommunication Convention. It also decided to change its name and was known as from 1 January 1934 as the International Telecommunication Union.

[...] À la Conférence de Madrid, en 1932, l'Union télégraphique internationale réunit en une Convention internationale des télécommunications les deux conventions adoptées en 1865 et 1906, à savoir la Convention télégraphique internationale et la Convention radiotélégraphique internationale. Elle change en outre de nom et devient à compter du 1er janvier 1934 l'Union internationale des télécommunications.
