INVERSE PLASTICITY [1 record]

Record 1 2000-02-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
  • Strength of Materials
DEF

An increase in the bulk volume during deformation, caused by a change from close-packed structure to open-packed structure, accompanied by an increase in the pore volume. The latter is accompanied by rotation of grains, microfracturing, and grain boundary slippage.

OBS

Dilatancy ... Also known as "inverse plasticity" since there is an increase in the resistance to deformation with increase in the rate of shear.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique des sols
  • Résistance des matériaux
DEF
