This term is used to designate an error in which the center appears inverted in relation to the frame.

The term inverted center is used to designate the stamp itself which bears such printing error.

Un premier passage sous la presse imprime [...] le cadre; un second passage, le sujet lui-même. Si, pour la seconde opération, l'ouvrier inattentif présente la feuille dans le mauvais sens, il s'ensuivra que la seconde impression se fera à l'envers par rapport à la première.

OBS

Le terme centre renversé désigne le timbre lui-même provenant de cette erreur d'impression.
