De patrón bimetálico oro-plata, se estableció en 1865 entre Francia, Bélgica, Italia y Suiza, por la Convención de París de 23 de diciembre de ese año. Grecia se adhirió en 1869 y un año antes, al reorganizarse el sistema monetario basado en la peseta, España adoptó como moneda básica la de cinco pesetas, o duro, de las mismas dimensiones y ley que las de la UML para francos, liras, etc. Tenía una relación oro-plata de 1/15,5 que, al romperse por las fuertes producciones argentíferas, condujo al patrón bimetálico «cojo» y a la virtual desorganización de la Unión. 1, record 1, Spanish, - Uni%C3%B3n%20Monetaria%20Latina
