An atmospheric phenomenon whereby a smoke plume, when there is a superadiabatic layer above a surface inversion, rises and diffuses upwards and laterally without reaching the ground surface.

Les panaches deviennent tourmentés vers le haut lorsqu'il se forme une couche superadiabatique au-dessus d'une inversion en surface. Dans de telles conditions, la diffusion est rapide vers le haut mais ne s'étend pas vers le bas dans l'inversion, de sorte qu'elle y devient nulle. Les émissions ne peuvent être rabattues au sol.

OBS

Cette forme que prennent les panaches est habituellement transitoire, étant remplacée par un étalement à l'horizontale lorsque l'inversion s'affermit.
