Departments are responsible for implementing the four-way classification in departmental accounts and meeting coding requirements for government-wide classifications included in the master lists of objects, and of programs and activities. This includes the primary responsibility for ensuring that appropriate departmental classification changes are made to reflect any changes in the master lists, for ensuring transactions are coded accurately, and for monitoring the quality of departmental coding.

Les ministères sont chargés d'appliquer la quadruple classification à leurs comptes ministériels et de respecter les exigences en matière de codage établies pour la classification à l'échelle de l'administration fédérale par article (voir les listes types d'articles à la section 8.2) et par programme et activité (voir la liste type des programmes et activités à la section 6.2 [du Manuel du plan comptable]. Ils doivent notamment modifier leur classification en fonction des changements apportés aux listes types, faire en sorte que leurs opérations soient bien codées et vérifier la qualité de leur système de codage.
