CONT

A number of submarine fan "lobe" models, implying widely different reservoir properties, has been introduced into the sedimentological literature. Four of these models are compared to contrast their differences in reservoir properties. Braided suprafan lobes, which are characterized by stacked sand bodies with good lateral and vertical communication, constitute excellent reservoir facies.

CONT

Specifically, canyon-fed systems common along western North America tend to have a single-leveed valley terminating in a suprafan depositional lobe; some fans, such as the Monterey, have slightly more complex features where more than one canyon is involved in fan development.

CONT

The middle-fan lobe is aggradational, convex in cross section, with a channel-levee complex on its apex.

OBS

suprafan lobe: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

CONT
