La méthode d'analyse par filtres à bandes étroites est une variante simplifiée de l'analyse spectrophotométrique. Elle consiste à découper, dans le spectre de la couleur à analyser et au moyen de filtres ne laissant passer qu'une bande de longueur d'onde étroite (filtres interférentiels), des éléments choisis, dont on détermine par sélection des composantes, les compositions trichromatiques. Ensuite, on additionne les composantes de chaque élément et on obtient, en affectant ces sommes de coefficients convenables, les valeurs tristimulus de la couleur étudiée.
