Negative pressure containment uses a vacuum building. Pressure relief into the vacuum building combines with dousing to drop pressure. Inside the containment envelope, the pressure is soon sub-atmospheric. This stops radiation leakage to the environment.

Le confinement à pression négative utilise un bâtiment sous vide. La décharge de pression dans les bâtiments sous vide se conjugue à l'aspersion pour faire baisser la pression. À l'intérieur de l'enveloppe de confinement, la pression devient vite inférieure à la pression atmosphérique. Cela fait cesser les fuites de rayonnement dans l'environnement.
