CONT

If a unidirectional force is applied to a polymer at rest ... above its glass-transition temperature, it begins to move away from the force. If the force is applied very slowly, in such a way that the Brownian movement can overcome the orienting forces caused by the flow, the mass of the polymer moves with a rate proportional to the applied stress. This is termed Newtonian flow.
