The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute opened officially on July 1, 2007 to pursue the key role played until now by the Second Language Institute (SLI) at the University of Ottawa. Our Mission : Promote excellence and innovation in the fields of bilingualism and language acquisition. To this end, we endeavour to: Create a dynamic and inspiring learning environment that provides a bridge to professional, academic, cultural, and personal growth. Be a leading national and international hub for Canadian expertise, research, and public policy on bilingualism, social cohesion, and citizenship as they relate to linguistic duality. Créé en juillet 2007, l'ILOB poursuit le rôle essentiel joué par l'Institut des langues secondes au sein de la Faculté des arts. Notre mission: Promouvoir l'excellence et l'innovation en matière de bilinguisme et d'acquisition des langues. À cette fin, nous nous engageons à: Créer un milieu d'apprentissage dynamique et inspirant, favorisant le développement professionnel, universitaire, culturel et personnel. Être un carrefour national et international pour l'expertise, la recherche et les politiques publiques canadiennes sur le bilinguisme, la cohésion sociale et la citoyenneté relativement à la dualité linguistique.
