In response to direction provided in the 1995 Budget, the Office of Food Inspection Systems (OFIS) was established to assess, in consultation with the Interdepartmental Committee on Food Regulation, possible changes in organizational structure that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal component of the Canadian Food Inspection System (CFIS).
