Depending on their nature, pre-development activities at an exploration site may be licensed by the AECB, through either an Ore Removal Permit (ORP) or an Underground Exploration Permit (UEP). An ORP is required if there is removal of uranium or thorium in excess of 10 kilograms (kg) for the expressed purpose of their recovery or metallurgical testing.
