OBS

En se basant sur des études psycho-acoustiques ou visuelles, les ingénieurs ont pu identifier certaines données que l'oreille ou l'œil humain ne perçoivent pas alors même qu'elles sont reproduites (phénomènes de masques, etc...). Ces informations peuvent alors être éliminées (par encodage) pour obtenir un gain de place. Le Dolby Digital, l'ATRAC et le PASC notamment, sont basés sur ce principe.
