Bien que le terme « incapacité permanente » soit le terme entériné par Entraide Traduction Santé pour désigner la notion de « permanent disability » en anglais, le terme « invalidité permanente » est employé dans les domaines de l'assurance et des services sociaux; on retrouve aussi « invalidité permanente » dans certains formulaires et documents utilisés dans le cadre du Programme canadien de prêts aux étudiants puisque c'est le terme employé dans la Loi fédérale sur l'aide financière aux étudiants.
