Les mélanines [...] Il en existe deux types qui diffèrent par leur structure et leur composition : l'eumélanine, de couleur noire ou brune, et la phéomélanine, de couleur jaune ou rouge à teneur en soufre élevée (cystéine et glutathion). La première est trouvée dans les yeux des mammifères et les cheveux noirs [chez l'humain], tandis que la seconde est essentiellement présente dans les cheveux roux et vraisemblablement dans les taches de rousseur.
