The completion of digestion in a secondary digester is only an accessory process. Digestion takes place essentially in the primary digester. This is why some secondary digesters can be equipped with a sold-water injection system to inhibit the effects of the methane fermentation process, to wash the colloidal matter out of the sludge and to promote thickening.

La finition du processus de digestion dans un digesteur secondaire n'est qu'accessoire. La digestion se fait essentiellement dans le digesteur primaire. C'est pourquoi les digesteurs secondaires peuvent, dans certains cas, être équipés de dispositif d'injection d'eau froide, cela afin de bloquer les séquelles du processus de fermentation méthanique, de laver les boues de leurs matières colloïdales et de faciliter leur épaississement.
