The pilot released the sling load, moved ahead to clear the load and then landed on the snow surface. He did a seating check to determine how firm the snow base was and then, when satisfied that the area was suitable, he fully lowered the collective and reduced power to ground idle. The bear paws broke through the snow, and the tail rotor was damaged on contact with the ground.

Le pilote a largué la charge sous l'élingue, s'est déplacé pour s'éloigner de la charge et a atterri sur la surface enneigée. Il a ensuite vérifié l'assise de l'appareil pour déterminer la fermeté du sol neigeux, et, satisfait de l'état de la surface, il a abaissé complètement le collectif et a réduit la puissance du moteur au ralenti sol. Les pattes d'ours se sont enfoncées dans la neige, et le rotor de queue a touché le sol, ce qui l'a endommagé.
