CONT

La bioluminescence, ou la production de lumière, se voit lorsqu'un enzyme (la luciférase) oxyde un substrat (la luciférine). Ces deux composés, avec une protéine protectrice du substrat (la LBP) se trouvent dans un organite spécialisé pour la bioluminescence appellé scintillon. La bioluminescence ne se produit que la nuit car les scintillons sont présents dans les cellules uniquement dans la phase nocturne.
