Sheet Molding Compounds (SMC). Sheet molding compounds are completely formulated, preimpregnated chemically thickened fiber glass-reinforced plastics molding materials that are supplied to the press in a dry or nontacky sheet form normally sandwiched between two carrier films. Le SMC est constitué de résines polyesters, parfois phénoliques, de fibres de verre coupées à partir de roving à 25 ou 50 mm avec éventuellement des fibres continues orientées, de charges minérales et de différents adjuvants, colorants, catalyseurs de durcissement, agents antiretrait au moulage ou encore additifs améliorant le comportement au feu. L'ensemble est fabriqué et conservé entre deux pellicules de polyéthylène.
