Subject field(s)

DEF

The condensation which occurs when a ship sails from a warm to a relatively cool climate.

OBS

The temperature of the cargo drops at a slower rate than that of the ship's environment. Moisture condenses on the inner surfaces of the ship and drips on to the cargo. To avoid damage to cargo caused by ship's sweat, it is important for cargo to be dry when loaded into the ship and ventilation is favoured when meeting these climatic conditions.
