A modified coal-cutter for use on shortwall faces, as opposed to a longwall coal-cutter. The jib is the body of the machine. A large proportion of time is spent in jibbing or sumping-in or out at the beginning and end of its cutting run across the face.

Haveuses Shortwall. Elles sont très employées aux U.S.A. On les a baptisées shortwall (front court) par opposition aux haveuses de taille ou «longwall». Elles sont en deux parties assemblées par boulons et goujons (au lieu de trois parties dans les longwall). L'avant contient le moteur. L'arrière comprend à la fois l'attaque du bras (bras rigide qui se prolonge sous la haveuse) et celle de deux tambours de halage à axe horizontal. La machine est complétée par plusieurs poulies de renvoi de câble, placées aux angles de la machine.
