(...) the standard surface pan used is the U.S. Weather Bureau Class A pan. This pan is 4 ft. in diameter and 10 in. deep. It is constructed of galvanized steel and water is maintained within 2-3 in. of the top (...). It is set on timbers so that the bottom is 6 in. above the adjacent ground surface (...). Earth is banked up over the timbers leaving approximately a one-inch space at the top to permit some air circulation under the pan.

(...) le bac de surface classique est le bac de classe "A" du U.S. Weather Bureau. Il a quatre pieds de diamètre et dix pouces de profondeur. Il est fait d'acier galvanisé. Le niveau de l'eau y est maintenu à 2 ou 3 pouces du bord de la cuve. (...) il repose sur des billes de bois de sorte que le fond se trouve à six pouces au-dessus de la surface du sol (...). Les billes de bois sont recouvertes de sol mais on laisse un espace d'environ un pouce entre le sol et le bac pour permettre la circulation de l'air sous le bac.
