A volatile fuming corrosive liquid compound SOCL2 usually made commercially by oxidation of sulphur dichloride with sulphur trioxide or sulphuryl chloride and used chiefly in making acyl chlorides from carboxylic acids and alkyl chlorides or alkyl sulfites from alcohols.
