When a customer is talking over the telephone, the other customer who shares the line with him cannot make a telephone call and is able to hear the conversation if he picks up the phone. He will have to wait for the line to be free before placing his call. Also, when the telephone rings, the two subscribers do not know if the call is theirs or not.
