By resolution 836(IX) or 14 December 1954, the General Assembly recommended that all countries institute a Universal Children's Day, to be observed as a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between children. It recommended that the Day was to be observed also as a day of activity devoted to promoting the ideals and objectives of the Charter and the welfare of the children of the world. The Assembly suggested to governments that the Day be observed on the date and in the way which each considers appropriate. The date 20 November, marks the day on which the Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989. 1, record 1, English, - Universal%20Children%27s%20Day

En 1954, l'Assemblée générale a recommandé [résolution 836 (IX)] à tous les pays d'instituer une Journée mondiale de l'enfance, qui serait une journée de fraternité mondiale et de compréhension entre les enfants, et d'activités favorisant le bien-être des enfants du monde entier. Elle a proposé aux gouvernements que cette journée soit célébrée à la date qui leur semblait la mieux appropriée. En 1954 la Asamblea General recomendó (resolución 836(IX)) que todos los países instituyeran el Día Universal del Niño, fecha que se dedicaría a la fraternidad y a la comprensión entre los niños del mundo entero y se destinaría a actividades propias para promover el bienestar de los niños del mundo. La Asamblea sugirió a los gobiernos que celebraran el Día en la fecha que cada uno de ellos estimara conveniente.
