De faibles valeurs de cisaillement vertical du vent entre la surface et la haute troposphère (moins de 10 m/s [20 mph]). Le cisaillement vertical est la modification du vent avec l'altitude. Un cisaillement important désorganise une dépression tropicale naissante et l'empêche de se développer. Pour un cyclone à l'état mature, une large zone de fort cisaillement vertical du vent peut provoquer sa dégénérescence et peut-être même sa disparition dans la mesure où le cisaillement interfère avec l'organisation de la convection profonde autour du centre du cyclone.
