D'après le client du service SVP, il s'agit d'une pompe utilisée dans les villages des pays en voie de développement pour faire jaillir l'eau des puits. En faisant osciller un levier, on comprime des boules de caoutchouc (qui ont la forme d'un œuf); cela crée une pression suffisante pour faire monter l'eau. Celle-ci remonte à travers des trous percés dans la partie supérieure d'un cylindre. Un système de clapets l'empêche de redescendre.
