Appareil fixé au rail qui détecte et signale la présence des roues au moment précis où celles-ci passent dessus. Chaque voie d'une installation possède quatre détecteurs magnétiques placés à des distances connues les uns des autres, ce qui permet de calculer la vitesse du train qui franchit l'installation et de cadencer le prélèvement de la température des roues et des boîtes d'essieux.
