The primary objective of the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office (FHBRO) is to assist federal government departments in the protection of their heritage buildings, in accordance with the Treasury Board Heritage Buildings Policy. The policy applies to all federal government departments which administer real property but not the Crown Corporations. This means, for example, that many post offices and all railway stations are not covered by the policy.

L'objectif premier du Bureau d'examen des édifices fédéraux du patrimoine (BEEFP) est d'aider les ministères fédéraux à protéger leurs édifices patrimoniaux, conformément à la Politique du Conseil du Trésor sur les édifices à valeur patrimoniale. Tous les ministères fédéraux qui administrent des biens immobiliers doivent respecter cette politique. Cependant, les sociétés d'État étant soustraites à la Politique, cela signifie que beaucoup de bureaux de poste et toutes les gares ferroviaires lui échappent.
