Detachment ... the reverse of annexation ... the separation or exclusion of territory from a municipality... In Canada, such detached territory is generally annexed to another municipality. Note that the enlargement or contraction of territory does not dissolve the corporation or create a new one.

The state of an economy in which industry is largely under foreign control, and hence fails to carry out a number of its usual functions.

OBS

This results in inadequate growth, employment, and trade. Many of the essential functions of individual firms, such as research and development, industrial design, marketing, investment planning, and corporate finance and strategy, are performed by their foreign parents rather than by the subsidiaries in a country such as Canada. Such a situation means that native skills will not be developed fully, and that fewer of the spin-off industries that result from these skills and activities will be created.

Elle aggrave également le problème du démembrement en réduisant la tendance de l'entreprise multinationale [...] à implanter davantage d'activités au Canada surtout du fait que d'autres gouvernements interviennent pour contrôler les entreprises appartenant à des non-résidents qui se trouvent sur leur territoire. Les négociations que d'autres gouvernements concluent avec une (entreprise multinationale) peuvent produire un effet désavantageux pour le Canada, particulièrement si celui-ci ne dispose pas de mécanismes de négociation ou décide de ne pas les utiliser.
