Dans la cloche à vide de GE, les alliages, sous forme d'une poudre ultra-fine, sont projetés, au point de fusion, par un pistolet à plasma dont la température des gaz atteint 27 760 ° C, et la vitesse, Mach 3. Le métal en fusion est pulvérisé sous une forme prototype puis soumis à un refroidissement très rapide. On obtient ainsi une structure métallique pratiquement sans défaut et d'une dureté approchant la perfection.
